Breaking: Suspected Herdsmen Kill Dozens, Burn Church in Fresh Attack On Benue Community

Tension rose on Tuesday evening after a fresh attack on Benue community left several residents feared dead. The tragic incident happened around 4 pm in Anwule community, Ohimini Local Government Area.

According to local sources, suspected armed herders invaded the area, targeting farmers and homes. Many villagers ran for safety as the attack continued late into the evening.

Sadly, several houses and a nearby church were also set on fire during the chaos.

Residents said the attackers returned after security personnel left, forcing families to hide in nearby bushes. So far, the exact number of casualties remains unclear, as bodies are still being recovered.

The latest violence marks the third such incident in Benue within just three days. On November 2, a rice farm worth millions was destroyed in Gwer West LGA.

Then on November 3, a former councillor, Atindiga Tsebee, was killed in Logo LGA.

Local authorities have since confirmed they are investigating the attack. Meanwhile, concerned citizens are urging the state government to step up protection for rural residents.

Many displaced villagers are currently seeking shelter in nearby communities as recovery efforts continue.

Observers described the repeated attacks on Benue community as worrying and called for stronger security measures across affected areas. However, officials have not yet released an official casualty figure or details of any arrests.

The atmosphere in Anwule remains tense as families count their losses and await government assistance. Despite the tragedy, residents say they hope peace will soon return to their once-quiet community.
