Wike Reacts To His Expulsion From PDP

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reacted to his expulsion from the PDP after delegates approved the motion on Saturday. He described the development as “Detty December in November,” suggesting the decision lacked seriousness.

His Special Assistant on Public Communications stated that some PDP members had gathered in Ibadan mainly to celebrate. He noted that the group acted like people enjoying an early festive party rather than handling political issues.

Wike said their statements sounded exaggerated because, according to him, they had indulged in drinks before speaking. He argued that their comments should not be taken seriously since the gathering focused more on celebration than procedure.

Meanwhile, the PDP expelled Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, and factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu for alleged anti-party activities. Delegates at the convention supported the motion unanimously, according to reports released after the event.

Earlier, several court orders attempted to stop the convention, yet the party proceeded despite warnings from senior members. Former Senate leaders had also urged the Damagum-led faction to obey the court rulings to avoid deepening the crisis. However, the convention continued, and leaders pushed through the expulsion decision without reconsideration.

Wike insisted the process lacked credibility and argued that PDP members ignored due process for political excitement. Furthermore, he suggested that the rushed convention signaled desperation within some party groups.

His reaction has drawn attention because it highlights growing tension inside the PDP. Observers believe the situation may escalate if the party fails to address its internal divides soon.
