Breaking: Davido Headlined Afreximbank Farewell Concert in Cairo, Egypt

Nigerian superstar Davido headlined the Davido Afreximbank Concert at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Farewell Conference and Investiture Ceremony yesterday in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The bank honoured outgoing president Benedict Oramah and installed George Elombi as its new leader. The event followed the theme “Decades of Impact as Building Blocks for a Prosperous Future.”

The two-day summit gathered African ministers, ambassadors, and executives to discuss trade finance, infrastructure, and diaspora engagement at the St. Regis Almasa Convention Center. Moreover, Davido delivered an electrifying set alongside reggae star Julian Marley and Congolese singer Innoss’B. He blended Afrobeats and global hits to mark a decade of Afreximbank supporting intra-African trade.

The Davido Afreximbank Concert offered entertainment for delegates while promoting the bank’s mission of economic integration across the continent. Among the high-profile attendees were Davido’s father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, former Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Furthermore, commentators noted that Davido’s appearance symbolised the fusion of culture and commerce. It reinforced Africa’s rising creative economy alongside its growing financial ambitions. Attendees praised his performance as “a memorable moment in Cairo,” while many online fans expressed excitement and pride.

One fan on X wrote, “Davido bringing Lagos to Cairo—Africa winning!” Another added, “Afrobeats meets diplomacy—this is the way forward!” Their reactions reflected how the concert united entertainment and diplomacy in one celebration of African excellence.

The investiture segment also formally inaugurated George Elombi as the fourth President of Afreximbank since its founding in 1993. He pledged to continue advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda. Additionally, he promised to harness the bank’s resources for development across the continent.

The summit’s agenda featured panels on digital trade financing, infrastructure investment, and diaspora-led economic growth. By combining policy dialogue with cultural programming like the Davido Afreximbank Concert, Afreximbank showcased a holistic vision for Africa’s future.

Ultimately, the concert and conference highlighted how financial institutions align with the creative sector to drive inclusive growth. With the spotlight on Egypt, Nigeria, and African arts, the event strongly emphasised unity, innovation, and continental progress.
