Residents of the Barki Abdullahi community in Lafia Local Government Area panicked on Saturday after suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a violent attack on farmers working on their land. The attackers allegedly chopped off a woman’s hand with a machete during the early morning assault. Other farmers also suffered various injuries as they attempted to escape from the armed men.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were working peacefully on the farm before the attackers arrived. They explained that the incident happened quickly and caused widespread fear across the area. A resident identified as Esla confirmed the brutal attack and described it as devastating. He said the victims were given urgent treatment at a nearby clinic shortly after the incident.
Moreover, Esla appealed to authorities to arrest the criminals responsible for the attack and restore safety in the community. He stressed that villagers now live in fear because they do not know when another attack may occur. Residents noted that the region has experienced rising insecurity in recent months, especially involving suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Furthermore, community members urged the Nasarawa State Government to deploy security operatives immediately to protect lives and property. They said the attack created panic among farmers who depend on their farmlands for survival. Many villagers now worry about returning to their farms due to the increasing danger.
