Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for threatening military action against Nigeria.
In a post on X on Sunday, Fani-Kayode called Trump a “deranged and sociopathic megalomaniac.” He accused him of hypocrisy and double standards in handling global conflicts.
Trump, on Friday, redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.” He cited ongoing violence against Christians and claimed the government failed to protect religious minorities.
The Nigerian government rejected Trump’s claim and dismissed any allegation of religious persecution in the country.
On Saturday, Trump further threatened to use military force against Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode condemned Trump’s statement and accused him of ignoring atrocities by “Israeli Zionist Nazis” and “UAE-backed RSF butchers of Darfur.”
He said Trump falsely portrayed Nigerians as “killers of Christians” while trying to label the country with genocide claims.
He also shared a message from a friend who described Trump’s remarks as “petulant and childish.” The message urged African leaders to realize that Western powers “are not our friends.”
Reaffirming his position, Fani-Kayode warned that Nigerians would resist any attempt by the U.S. to invade their country. He said the situation should remind Nigerians to support brave and patriotic leadership.
He stated: “Imagine a deranged and sociopathic megalomaniac and tyrant, a recalcitrant bully, and a shameless scumbag like @realDonaldTrump threatening our country with invasion. What a nerve!”
Fani-Kayode urged the Nigerian government to reject manipulation from certain American officials. He said these officials do not represent the extreme right-wing Christian fundamentalist and anti-Muslim views Trump embraces.
