Abia State Governor Alex Otti says he has already activated a strategy to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom following his life sentence. He added that he laid groundwork for this process while Kanu’s trial was still ongoing.
Otti confirmed he has “activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured.”He stated that he discussed agreements with “the highest authorities” during a visit to Kanu in DSS detention in Abuja.
According to the governor, his approach relies on dialogue and diplomacy, not force, to resolve the IPOB issue. He urged calm across Abia and the Southeast, stressing that panicky reactions could derail the strategy.
Furthermore, Otti warned political actors to stop exploiting Kanu’s imprisonment for narrow gains. He reaffirmed his complete commitment to accomplish Nnamdi Kanu’s release through peaceful, high-level engagement.
Otti also recalled that he first engaged senior federal officials back on December 22, 2023, exploring that political roadmap. He insisted that despite the November 20 judgment, the alternative resolution he proposed will now advance. The governor appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support him in this effort and to remain patient.
He expressed confidence that, with received assurances, a resolution is now within reach. Indeed, Otti said he would continue to pursue this strategy “until his freedom is secured.” He concluded by urging unity, restraint, and peace in pursuit of lasting stability in the Southeast.
