Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed deep sadness over the ongoing killings in Plateau State. He addressed residents at Jos Polo Field during an APC reception for political defectors, representing President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasised that Nigeria must take responsibility for peace rather than relying on foreign assistance.
According to senator Akpabio, lasting stability will only come through collective national effort. He reassured the people that President Tinubu remains committed to tackling violence across Plateau and throughout Nigeria. Urging citizens to cooperate with government initiatives to restore order and unity.
“We are calling on God to help us bring peace to Plateau,” Senator Akpabio said. “Anyone who will lead must prioritize peace and safety.” He further noted that he cries whenever he hears of killings, whether of a child or an adult. The senate president highlighted that much of the violence has roots dating back to 2010, and he had witnessed them firsthand during his tenure as governor.
Senator Akpabio also condemned the bloodshed, displacement, and destruction, saying Nigeria is suffering from years of unrest. He assured Plateau residents that the government will address their concerns while intensifying efforts to protect lives. He called on citizens to support the APC’s peace agenda and remain committed to unity and reconciliation.
He stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve progress without peace, adding that the government will continue strengthening security measures in Plateau and beyond. “Cooperation between the government and people is essential for stability,” Senator Akpabio concluded.
