Shawn Faqua and Wife Make History with Nigeria’s First Wedding on a Moving Train

Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya, made history on Sunday October 19th, 2025 by exchanging vows aboard a moving train on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway.

The couple departed from Mobolaji Johnson Train Station in Alagomeji-Yaba, Lagos, with one of the coaches transformed into a beautifully decorated wedding venue on wheels. Guests applauded when the couple sealed their union with a kiss as the train glided through Nigeria’s revitalised rail corridor.

Videos of the ceremony quickly went viral, capturing the bride in her white lace gown declaring, “Hey guys, we’re getting married on the train!” while Faqua added with a grin, “First ever! Breaking record!”

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) applauded the event on its official X account, writing: “From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made — the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”

Fans took to Twitter to share their excitement and admiration. One user wrote, “This is pure magic — love, rails and dreams all rolled into one journey. Congrats Shawn & Sharon!” Another posted, “You two showed us weddings can move beyond the ordinary. Love on tracks!” Yet another added, “When the train pulls away and your heart pulls together… beautiful.”

The ceremony highlighted Nigeria’s modern railway infrastructure and redefined wedding celebrations across the country. Faqua and Ifunanya blended tradition and innovation, paying homage to cultural heritage while showcasing creativity and unity. Their groundbreaking wedding not only marked a personal milestone but also captured a spirit of progress and hope for many.
